Redditch brought in Mark Hands for David Bridgwater. ----------------------------------------------- The game kicked off in front of over 1000 people as Redditch tried to finish the job they started on Saturday. Kettering did however start with a high tempo in an effort to push their hosts back into defence. Nevertheless it was Redditch who created the first chance as Gary Hay headed wide a cross from James Dance. Kettering’s first real effort saw Greg Taylor set Francis Green away and his first cross was cleared and the second cross was hit behind. Jack Byrne shot from 25 yards straight at Lee Harper, and then on 20 minutes Exodus Geohaghon’s long throw found it’s way to Moses Ashikodi at the back post but his header was straight at Danny Lewis in the home goal. Two minutes later, Asa Charlton’s free kick was headed away for a corner by Patrick Noubissie and from the restart Hay shot well wide. Joe Clarke’s shot was also well over. The Poppies were having the majority share of possession, and on 25 minutes a clearance from Harper was helped on by Geohaghon and Francis Green hooked wide. The visitors were now pressing and a corner from Danny Thomas saw Greg Taylor’s shot deflected wide and from this corner Francis Green’s shot was saved by Lewis. After 34 minutes another Geohaghon long throw was headed on by John Dempster and Lewis saved well at point blank range from Ashikodi. Francis Green went on a run down the right and his shot was deflected wide of the far post. Geohaghon’s next long throw was punched by Lewis against Dempster, and the ball went past the post for a goal kick. The last chance of the half saw Lucan Spittle head over Charlton’s corner from close in. Half Time: Redditch United 0 - 0 Kettering Town Seconds into the restart, a poor cross-field ball by Noubissie found Andy Ducros, but Dempster was back quickly to snuff out the danger. Kettering had a golden chance to take the lead on 53 minutes. Charlton brought down Ashikodi to concede a penalty. Ashikodi got up to fire the ball well over the bar. Five minutes on and Spittle’s cross from the right for Redditch saw Jack Byrne head just over. Kettering did have the ball in the net after 61 minutes as Green’s clever lob deceived Lewis- but Ian Roper was adjudged offside. Green then set up Ashikodi, but he could not control his shot as he fired wide of the right post. Substitute Damian Spencer then set up Ashikodi and this time Lewis made an excellent save, diving to his right to concede a corner. From the corner Roper and Geohaghon got in each other’s way from close in and in a good position, the ball went over the bar. Lee Harper then had to be sharp to punch away a Charlton corner and then collect the subsequent cross.Spencer shot wide and then Ashikodi had a shot saved. With extra time looming Redditch almost scored. Dance’s left foot shot from the right hit the left upright with Harper beaten. The rebound saw Byrne make an excellent contact and somehow Harper from a prone position had managed to get up and twist in the air to make a fantastic save, to keep Kettering in the tie. There was still time for Dance to cross from the right and Byrne’s header flashed wide of the near post. 90 minutes: Redditch United 0 - 0 Kettering Town Extra time can be summarised: 94 : Dance weaved his way through and a combination of Harper and Roper cleared. 97 : Green’s free kick saw Taylor’s shot turned round the post by Lewis. From the corner Spencer’s header was saved at the foot of the post by Lewis. 102: Hay shot over from 25 yards. 103: Spencer shot harmlessly wide. 108: Spittle brought down Ashikodi and this time the penalty hit the foot of the post, came out and was cleared. 112: David Bridgwater’s corner on the right was met by Byrne’s header and Harper saved low at his left post. The winning goal in the third minute of added time, saw Ashikodi through on goal and as Lewis made another excellent stop the ball bounced up fro substitute Jean-Paul Marna to nod in from close range.
